Tim Allen recently appeared on the odious Jimmy Fallon’s The Tonight Show and confirmed that Disney has contacted both him and Tom Hanks for Toy Story 5.
Back in February, Disney CEO Bob Iger announced that a new Toy Story movie was in development but gave no further details. Well, it appears old Bobby wasn’t just trying to generate headlines because things are starting to happen.
However, Tim doesn’t sound like he’s that keen, thinking five might be too many. But considering Tim has also made three The Santa Clause movies and two seasons of the TV series called The Santa Clauses (I never knew that was a thing), so perhaps when that big bag of money arrives, five will definitely not be enough.
Tim tells Jim:
“Bob Iger, head of Disney, said it was on and actually said it was going to happen. They have reached out to Tom and I to reprise the roles. They’re not saying anything about it…You wonder if four was too many. Is five going to be too much?”
“According to the scuttlebutt, the writer that’s doing it wrote one of the better ones and said, ‘If I didn’t get this right, I wouldn’t do it.’ It could be a very, very interesting way to reunite it.”
Allen has voiced Buzz Lightyear since Toy Story was released an astonishing 27 years ago – you feel as old a shit reading that don’t you! He was not asked to reprise his role in the spinoff film Lightyear, in favour of Chris Evans, which cause controversy. But the movie stunk the House Of Mouse out and eventually led to the team behind the movie all being laid off.
So it looks like Disney is once again heading to milk the Toy Story cow but will they learn from their growing list of animated failures and go woke, or will they do the sensible thing and give the audience a great story beloved by families? Who knows and frankly, who cares when it comes to Disney anymore?
