By Following on from the news of its slightly earlier release date of March 1st next year, it has also been revealed that Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune: Part Two” is set to score an IMAX 70mm run following the success of “Oppenheimer” using the format earlier this year.
This adaptation of the second half of Frank Herbert’s iconic sci-fi novel was shot entirely using 1.43:1 ARRI Alexa IMAX-certified cameras. That’s considerably up on “Dune: Part One” which filmed only roughly 40% of its entire runtime in full IMAX.
However one key difference is those ARRI Alexa IMAX-certified cameras are digital cameras, they did not use real film like “Oppenheimer” did.
Whilst the “Oppenheimer” 70mm IMAX film print is said to have a resolution as high as 18K, a digital presentation is likely to not be quite so crystal clear even as it will still easily be the best way to see the film.
This new film explores the mythic journey of Paul Atreides as he unites with Chani and the Fremen while on a warpath of revenge against the conspirators who destroyed his family.
Facing a choice between the love of his life and the fate of the known universe, he sets to prevent a terrible future only he can foresee.
Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Stellan Skarsgård, Dave Bautista, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, Josh Brolin, and Stephen McKinley Henderson return and are joined by Christopher Walken as Emperor Shaddam IV, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Austin Butler as Feyd-Rautha, and Léa Seydoux as Lady Margot.
“Dune: Part Two” opens everywhere on March 1st 2024.
