With the actor’s strike over and production schedules being worked out, Marvel Studios has now announced new release dates for its next four films.
“Deadpool 3,” originally slated for May 3rd 2024, will now open on July 26th 2024. That film is reportedly halfway through shooting and is set to get back to filming in London in the next two weeks. Both editing and special-effects work is already well underway on what has already been shot.
It is taking over the slot previously held by “Captain America: Brave New World” which has now been pushed back to a February 14th 2025 release date.
That film has already completed its main shoot and is well into post-production, with The Hot Mic reporting that the move is to allow for extensive reshoots following alleged poor test screenings. They indicate three major sequences will be cut and reshoots will take place early next year.
Meanwhile, the troubled Mahershala Ali-led “Blade” movie is being pushed from that February 2025 slot all the way back to November 7th 2025 – a full two years from now. The project had not begun filming at all yet.
Finally the team-up movie “Thunderbolts” has been pushed seven months – taking it from December 20th 2024 year to July 25th 2025. that film was about to begin filming when the strikes commenced so it will no doubt spend much of the early part of 2024 conducting its principal shoot.
Disney has also delayed the Barry Jenkins-directed prequel “Mufasa: The Lion King” by six months to take over the old “Thunderbolts” slot of December 20th 2024.
The new schedule sees only one MCU film for 2024 with “Deadpool 3”, though Sony has three Marvel projects coming out next year (“Madame Web” in February, “Kraven the Hunter” in August and “Venom 3” in November).
In 2025 on the other hand, Marvel Studios now has four films opening if they don’t delay “Fantastic Four” from its current May 2nd 2025 slot.
