Hulu has premiered the full-length trailer for its period drama event series “The Artful Dodger,” a series that serves as both a sequel and spin-off to Charles Dickens’ “Oliver Twist”.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster (“The Queen’s Gambit”) stars as Jack Dawkins who has transferred his skills as a nimble-fingered child pickpocket many years ago to now working as a surgeon in 1850s Australia in the lively colony of Port Victory.
His past returns to haunt him with the arrival of Fagin (David Thewlis) who lures him back into a world of crime. At the same time the local governor’s daughter (Maia Mitchell), who is determined to become the colony’s first female surgeon, is a greater threat to his heart.
From heists to life-and-death surgeries to the harsh realities of the criminal world mingling with the middle ground and gentry, this is a tale of reinvention, betrayal, redemption, and love with a twist.
James McNamara, David Maher and David Taylor created the series for Curio Pictures and Beach Road Pictures. Jo Porter, Maher and Taylor executive produce.
Damon Herriman, Miranda Tapsell and Tim Minchin co-star in the eight-episode series which premieres November 29th on Disney+ and Hulu.
