Dario Scardapane (Amazon’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan,” Netflix’s “The Punisher”) is stepping in as the new showrunner for Marvel Studios’ “Daredevil: Born Again” TV series as part of the show’s creative overhaul.
In addition “Synchronic” and “The Endless” filmmakers Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead, hot off their success directing episodes of the second season of “Loki” and earlier “Moon Knight,” have been hired to direct all the remaining new “Daredevil” episodes left to film.
The Charlie Cox and Vincent D’Onofrio-led show was in the middle of production in New York when the writers and actors strike forced it to hit the pause button. After reviewing the footage, Marvel executives decided to go into a new direction.
The result is Chris Ord and Matt Corman, who were acting as head writers, have departed those roles but remain as executive producers. Scardapane takes over their old job, along with taking on a more traditional showrunner capacity.
Marvel will keep some scenes and episodes that have already been shot, but some serialized elements will be injected. Scardapane will write the remaining new episodes, and write the new scenes for the already shot ones to incorporate what footage they want to use.
Originally the order was for eighteen episodes but now it’s unclear how many episodes the season will encompass. Scardapane’s credits also include writing the western “Posse,” consulting producer on FX’s “The Bridge,” and executive producer on “State of Affairs”.
