Studiocanal has premiered the trailer for its true story-inspired black comedy-mystery “Wicked Little Letters” which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and will release on February 23rd in the United Kingdom.
In the film, a 1920s English seaside town of Littlehampton bears witness to a dark and absurd scandal in a story that follows two neighbours: deeply conservative local Edith Swan and rowdy Irish migrant Rose Gooding.
When Edith and her fellow residents begin to receive wicked letters full of profanities, foul-mouthed Rose is charged with the crime. The anonymous letters prompt a national uproar, and a trial ensues.
However, after Edith unexpectedly forms a friendship with Rose, the town’s women suspect that something is amiss and Rose may not be the culprit after all, so they all team up to find the real suspect.
The project reunites “The Lost Daughter” co-stars Olivia Colman and Jessie Buckley with the pair joined by Timothy Spall, Anjana Vasan, Alisha Weir, Gemma Jones, Lolly Adefope, Jason Watkins, Eileen Atkins, Hugh Skinner, and Malachi Kirby.
Thea Sharrock directs from a screenplay written by Jonny Sweet. No word as yet on any further international release dates.
