One of last year’s biggest surprise hits for Apple TV+ was “The Family Plan,” a family comedy starring Mark Wahlberg.
In it, he played Dan Morgan – an ex-elite government assassin who is now living the quiet suburban life of a devoted husband, father of three and successful car salesman.
When enemies from his past track him down, Dan packs his unsuspecting wife (Michelle Monaghan), angsty teen daughter, gamer teen son and ten-month-old baby into their minivan for an impromptu cross-country road trip to Las Vegas.
The movie premiered December 15th and became the most viewed movie in the history of the Apple TV+ service after just one week.
Now the film’s director Simon Cellan Jones has spoken with ComingSoon and was asked what’s next for him. He revealed that a potential sequel is being talked about:
“I don’t know [what’s next]. We talk about a sequel to The Family Plan, which I think would be really fun to get the old gang back together.
I’m doing that thing where I’m reading some scripts. I’m in that time where I’m pleased not to be working, and then in a month, I’m going to be panicking that I’m not working. You know how it goes.
So what I’m doing is taking the peace while I can and trying to find my next project. I haven’t found it for sure yet.”
Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, and Don Granger produced the film for Skydance.
