A live-action adaptation of the DC Comics title “Teen Titans” is in the works at James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures.
Actress and playwright-turned-screenwriter Ana Nogueira has been set to pen the script for the project. She is already a part of the new DC, writing the upcoming “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” film for the studio.
First introduced in the mid-1960s, the Teen Titans featured Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad as well as Wonder Girl. That version wasn’t a major seller.
In the 1980s it relaunched with Marv Wolfman and George Perez where it achieved strong success with the team now consisting of Robin, Cyborg, Raven, Starfire, Beast Boy and Wonder Girl. It became a massive hit and DC’s No. 1-selling comic.
On screen it has had major success with “Teen Titans Go!,” a fast-paced comedic take on the property which has run eight seasons on Cartoon Network.
It also served as the basis for “Titans,” the live-action TV series in 2018 which ran for four seasons.
It’s not clear where this film will fit in Gunn & Safran’s plan – will it be part of their ‘Chapter One: Gods and Monsters’ line-up or is it something in development for ‘Chapter Two’? It’s not clear for now.
