Stars always talk up their films, that’s part of the job, but veteran actors are generally a bit more candid and truthful in their assessment of their films.
Today, Michael Keaton has spoken about the upcoming “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice,” the long-in-the-works sequel to Tim Burton’s iconic 1988 dark comedy “Beetlejuice” that’s coming out this Fall.
Keaton reprises his role of the vile bioexorcist spook in the film and has previously gushed about how much fun he had shooting the movie and loved how practical the effects were.
Now, it seems he has seen an early cut of the movie. Speaking on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show, he says:
“It’s just so fun and I’ve seen it now. I’m going to see it again after a couple of little tweaks in the editing room, and I confidently say this thing is great.”
Keaton added that he rewatched the original film to get back into character for the sequel:
“I probably only really seen it from the beginning once or twice maybe. So I hadn’t seen it for a long, long, long time so I did go back and look at it again. [It] is beautiful, physically. The other one [the sequel] was so fun and exciting visually, it’s all that but really beautiful and interestingly emotional here and there. I wasn’t ready for that. It’s great.”
He adds that Catherine O’Hara’s Delia Deetz was “doubly funny” in the sequel which also stars Winona Ryder as Lydia Deetz, Jenna Ortega as Astrid Deetz, Monica Bellucci, Willem Dafoe, Justin Theroux, Arthur Conti, and Burn Gorman.
