Paramount+’s spy thriller The Department is starting to fill out its ranks.
“Atonement” and “Darkest Hour” director Joe Wright has been set as the helmer of the first two episodes of the upcoming spy thriller series “The Department” for the Paramount+ service.
In addition Jez and John-Henry Butterworth (“Ford v. Ferrari,” “Edge of Tomorrow”) have been hired to write all ten installments.
Inspired by the French hit “Le Bureau des Legendes,” Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios are producing the series which landed a straight-to-series order a year ago.
The original French series launched in 2015 and focused on the division of France’s external security service responsible for training and handling deep-cover agents over the course of long-term missions.
Plot specifics of the new one are under wraps. George Clooney was announced as director a year ago but has since handed those duties over to Wright.
Clooney and producing partner Grant Heslov remain onboard as executive producers.
