HBO’s “Mare of Easttown” aired back in early 2021 to much acclaim and solid ratings, with the show’s reputation well regarded in the time since.
Creator Brad Ingelsby envisioned it as a limited series, but the show’s success was strong enough that there was an understandable desire for more from audiences.
Ingelsby has previously teased that if he and Winslet agreed on an idea that felt like a “deserving second chapter in Mare’s journey,” they’d look into it.
Three years on and with Winslet back on HBO with the six-episode political satire “The Regime,” walk of Mare has come up again. Asked about a potential second season by THR, Winslet says there’s been no movement at all:
“At the moment, hand on heart, I have not had an active conversation with anyone at HBO about a possible season 2 for quite a while. That doesn’t necessarily mean anything. But it does definitely mean I’m not lying. Like, it hasn’t come up.”
In contrast to ‘Mare,’ reviews for the Will Tracy-created “The Regime” have been decidedly mixed with just a 57/100 on Metacritic. That series runs through until April 7th.
