A bidding war has broken out and kids TV character Bob the Builder is the cause.
Deadline reports that Netflix, Amazon MGM Studios, and DreamWorks Animation are among multiple studios and streamers who have made offers for a new Mattel Films animated adaptation of the “Bob the Builder” franchise.
Anthony Ramos will star as the title character based on the long-running children’s series about a can-do construction worker and building contractor.
The film follows Roberto (aka Bob) who travels to Puerto Rico for a major construction job. Bob takes on issues affecting the island and digs deeper into what it means to build.
His journey will celebrate the vibrant and colorful textures of the Caribbean Latin nations and their people. Felipe Vargas is attached to write the screenplay.
Jennifer Lopez is producing the feature alongside Ramos, Alex Bulkley, Corey Campodonico, Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas and Benny Medina.
The original “Bob the Builder” television series ran for twelve seasons and centered on Bob the building contractor and his friends, was created for preschool/early elementary school-age children – spreading messages of positivity and team work.
