Former “Brokeback Mountain” and “Love and Other Drugs” co-stars Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are in talks to re-team for the second season of the Emmy-winning anthology series “Beef” at Netflix.
Deadline broke the news, saying that recent breakouts Charles Melton (“May December”) and Cailee Spaeny (“Priscilla”) are also in talks to join them as their rivals in a story around two feuding couples.
The trade indicates Netflix is very close to giving the greenlight on the new season with the news coming in the wake of the first season sweeping the limited series categories at multiple awards ceremonies in the past few months.
The Steven Yeun and Ali Wong-led first season is still the highest rated new show of 2023 on Metacritic with an 86/100, just ahead of “I’m a Virgo” at 85/100 and The Last of Us” and “Poker Face” with an 84/100.
Series creator Lee Sung Jin discussed the possibility of a second season last month, saying they’re waiting to hear if Netflix is interested.
