A couple of film script updates today. First up, Mark Wahlberg has offered a brief update on the development of the sequel to 2022’s film adaptation of the acclaimed and popular PlayStation video game series “Uncharted”.
Ruben Fleischer (“Venom”) directed the project, which saw Spider-Man star Tom Holland take on a younger incarnation of the Nathan Drake character – joined by Wahlberg as Victor ‘Sully’ Sullivan in a treasure-hunting action adventure.
The results were mixed. The film managed to gross a quite impressive $400 million worldwide from a relatively tight $120 million budget. The film also performed well in audience polls, but critics and fans of the games weren’t impressed.
Now, in a recent interview with ScreenRant two years after the film’s release, Wahlberg offered this update:
“Actually, I just got a call today that they got the script in. I can’t grow a real beard and mustache, but they said, ‘Start growing your mustache. It’s gonna take awhile.’ I’d be interested to see what the story’s like, and where that adventure takes us. But I’m excited; I know audiences really loved the first one, so we’ll see.”
Meanwhile “Barbie” director Greta Gerwig has revealed that she wrote a draft of the script for her forthcoming new take on C.S. Lewis’ “The Chronicles of Narnia” books before she started working on “Barbie”.
Speaking with Time Magazine recently, Gerwig spoke of doing this as her post-“Barbie” project:
“Knowing that I’d laid the groundwork for Narnia and wanted to return to it – that’s probably something I set up for myself psychologically. Because I know the right thing, for me anyway, is to keep making movies. Whatever happens, good or bad, you’ve got to keep going.”
Gerwig also discussed the appeal of adapting those works for her:
“It’s connected to the folklore and fairy stories of England, but it’s a combination of different traditions. As a child, you accept the whole thing – that you’re in this land of Narnia, there are fans, and then Father Christmas shows up. It doesn’t even occur to you that it’s not schematic. I’m interested in embracing the paradox of the worlds that Lewis created, because that’s what’s so compelling about them.”
Gerwig previously revealed she has reverence for the property as she grew up with it as a child and finds herself a little intimidated by doing what she’s about to do.
