An online outlet is reporting that Star Wars: The Acolyte has set an air date on Disney+ of June 5th. Collider carried the report, and intriguingly says Disney’s representatives “did not deny or confirm” the date when they reached out for comment.

So could we be about to get another Star Wars series on Disney+ this year? This could be an interesting one, as it was widely rumored that Kathleen Kennedy pushed this project forward, bringing on series creator Leslye Headland against the wishes of Bob Iger just as he was taking the reins back at Disney and taking a close look at the failures of Star Wars under Disney’s watch.

The series is set many years before the events of Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace. This is the end of the High Republic era, but before the fall of the galactic democracy.

The story follows a former Jedi Padawan and her one-time Master as they investigate something that will challenge the status quo, the Jedi Order, and the foundations of the galactic order itself.

Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Joonas Suotamo, Jodie Turner-Smith, Manny Jacinto, Carrie-Anne Moss, Dean-Charles Chapman, Margarita Levieva, and Charlie Barnett star in The Acolyte.

There are eight episodes in the series, and if it does screen this year it will join Star Wars: Skeleton Crew in 2024. That is more of a family show set in the same timeframe as The Mandalorian. Andor season 2 screens in early 2025.

Ahsoka season 2 and The Mandalorian and Grogu are also in development in the world of Star Wars.

Marvel seems to have realized that something is rotten, and is taking real steps to course correct. So far, it is unclear if those around Star Wars will wake up.
