The Gerard Butler-led “Greenland” sequel is finally set to begin production with shooting to commence in April.

Titled “Greenland: Migration,” will see Butler reunite with director Ric Roman Waugh and the first film’s writer Chris Sparling. His co-star Morena Baccarin is also back.

Butler starred as John Garrity in the first film, a structural engineer who attempts to flee Atlanta along with his wife Allison (Baccarin) and diabetic son Nathan (Roger Dale Floyd) after a comet threatens to destroy the planet.

After John, Allison and Nathan are separated, the family struggles to reunite while fragments of the comet rain down on earth, threatening an extinction-level event.

Set after the comet has decimated Earth, the sequel sees the Garrity family forced to embark on a perilous journey across what’s left of Europe to find a new home.

Released during the 2020 pandemic, the original film took in over $50 million at the box office. A sequel was quickly greenlit but stalled due to STX putting the film’s rights into bankruptcy protection.

Butler, Alan Siegel, Brendon Boyea., Basil Iwanyk, Erica Lee, Sébastien Raybaud and John Zois are producing. Anton and STX are co-producing and co-financing.
