Actor Mark Ruffalo appeared in a Q&A about his career at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival on Sunday and the Oscar nominee where he appeared to confirm something he probably shouldn’t have.
Namely he seemed to indicate that his take on The Hulk for Marvel Studios will be in the upcoming film “Captain America: Brave New World”.
Moderator Anne Thompson reportedly asked if he’ll next appear in the 2025 film to which he said “Yeah”. Then asked “Are you allowed to talk about that?” to which he responded: “Yeah. It’s going to be great!.”
Sadly though, according to multiple sources for Variety, Ruffalo misspoke thinking he was agreeing ‘Brave New World’ was one of Marvel’s next films – not that he was in it.
Ruffalo is famous for a number of Marvel-related PR slip-ups, from spoiling the “Avengers: Infinity War” ending to accidentally live-streaming part of “Thor: Ragnarok”.
One thing he did say that seems set though is that Marvel Studios Kevin Feige has made it clear to the actor – there won’t be a standalone Hulk film at the studio.
Feige asked Ruffalo a few years back: “What would you do if you had a standalone Hulk movie?” to which the actor replied “I said, ‘I’d like to take him from this raging maniac to this integrated character’”.
Feige then said “‘Okay. We’ll do that over the course of four movies. We’ll never give you a standalone Hulk… Don’t mean to burst your bubble, but that’s just not going to [happen]… So, we’ll do it over four movies, how does that sound?”
Ruffalo was recently inducted into the Hollywood Walk of Fame. “Captain America: Brave New World” will be released in cinemas February 14th.
