Legendary filmmaker Norman Jewison has passed away. He reportedly died peacefully on Saturday, aged 97. Jewison’s career spans more than four decades and seven Oscar nominations.
His most famous works included Best Picture winner “In the Heat of the Night,” and Best Picture nominees “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Moonstruck,” “A Soldier’s Story” and “The Russians are Coming”.
That’s hardly all though as other noted works included “The Cincinnati Kid,” “Agnes of God,” “F.I.S.T.,” “And Justice For All,” “The Hurricane,” “Only You,” “Other People’s Money,” the original “The Thomas Crown Affair” and “Rollerball,” and the “Jesus Christ Superstar” film adaptation.
He also produced films like “The January Man,” “The Landlord” and “The Dogs of War,” and helmed telemovies like “Geronimo” and “The Million Dollar Incident”
In 1999 he won the prestigious Irving G. Thalberg Award at the Academy Awards, and has won three Emmy Awards for his TV work. In 2010 he scored the coveted Lifetime Achievement Award from the Directors Guild of America.
Jewison is survived by his wife Lynne St. David and his three children and five grandchildren.
