Former “Star Wars” alum John Boyega is set to both star in and executive produce a TV series prequel to the Denzel Washington-led 2010 post-apocalyptic action feature ” The Book Of Eli”.
Boyega will play younger version of Washington’s Eli character in the series which is being created, written and executive produced by the film’s writer Gary Whitta.
The neo-Western unfolds thirty years after a nuclear catastrophe devastated the planet’s biosphere. It follows Eli, a nomad who fights his way across a ravaged post-apocalyptic America while protecting a sacred book that holds the secrets to humanity’s salvation.
The series is reportedly set thirty years prior to the events in the film – putting it around the time of the apocalyptic event or in its immediate aftermath.
Albert and Allen Hughes, who directed the film, will also executive produce the project which will soon be taken out to potential buyers and is set up at Alcon Entertainment – the company also behind the upcoming “Blade Runner 2099” series for Prime Video.
The original film, which also starred Gary Oldman, made $157.1 million in the worldwide box office from an $80 million budget.
