By “Wednesday” star Jenna Ortega is reportedly in talks to play the title role in Taika Waititi’s next movie “Klara and the Sun”. The InSneider broke the scroop, but not much else was revealed.
The film will be an adaptation of “Never Let Me Go” author Kazuo Ishiguro’s novel in which Klara is an ‘Artificial Friend’ with
“outstanding observational qualities”.
From her place in the store, she watches the behaviour of those who come in to browse and those on the street outside, hoping one day, a customer will choose her.
Dahvi Waller (“Mrs. America”) penned the original draft of the script, with Waititi likely doing further drafts. Filming on the project is set to begin in March.
Waititi’s name remains attached to numerous projects in development including a “Star Wars” film, a reboot of “Flash Gordon,” and his long gestating dream project – an adaptation of the famed manga and anime “Akira”.
Waititi is coming off “Next Goal Wins,” the soccer comedy which opened in November to mixed reviews and little box-office. He also stars in the highly acclaimed HBO pirate dramedy “Our Flag Means Death”.
