“The Lost City of Z” and “Ad Astra” filmmaker James Gray is currently prepping his next film, and it appears he may have found its star.
DanielRPK (via World of Reel) reports that “IT,” “John Wick: Chapter 4” and “Barbarian” star Bill Skarsgård is attached to play a young John F. Kennedy in the project.
The project, titled “Mayday,” will focus on Kennedy’s youthful days as a Navy commander during World War II of the patrol torpedo boat PT 109 in the South Pacific.
The boat is targeted by a destroyer and after the deaths of two of his crewmen, Kennedy guides the eleven survivors in swimming to a deserted island among the Solomon Islands chain where the crew has to hide from passing Japanese barges.
The film will chart his evolution into a war hero, along with the turbulent relationship he shared with his father.
Gray, who is coming off the film “Armageddon Time,” reportedly rewrote the script, which had been originally penned by Samuel Franco and Evan Kilgore, with production to reportedly begin soon.
