By Just a little under three months out from the release of “Dune: Part Two” and already some more chatter about a potential third film has emerged.
At last report the other week, filmmaker Denis Villeneuve revealed he had almost finished the screenplay for a third film in the franchise – one that would adapt the much slimmer second book “Dune Messiah” as one film.
He also indicated he’d like to do it but would likely fit in something else beforehand. Twelve years pass between the events of “Dune” and “Dune Messiah,” meaning there’s no real rush to get moving on the next one.

Now the franchise’s star Timothée Chalamet has finally commented on a potential third movie, and in doing so discussed the return of a familiar face – Jason Momoa reprising his role as Duncan Idaho.
Speaking with MTV, Chalamet was asked about how the second film saw the swapping out of some characters and how Momoa is of course missing, to which he responded:
“But Momoa will be back. Not in this one, but in [Messiah]… It’s weird because they’re so secretive about the script and the trailer, but [the books] have been out there for 70 years.”
The book serves as something of a dark coda to Paul’s story and deals with the challenges to be faced following the events to be seen in the upcoming “Dune Part Two” film opening on March 1st.
