By Comedian Ray Romano says his beloved sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” which aired from 1996 to 2005, will not be getting a reboot or revival.
Appearing on “Real Time With Bill Maher” on Friday, Romano addressed the possibility of a reboot and said: “As far as a reboot, well, it’s now out of the question because unfortunately the parents are gone: Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts.”
Boyle and Roberts portrayed Romano’s character’s parents Frank and Marie Barone on the sitcom and were often the biggest scene stealers of the series. Boyle died in 2006, shortly after the series originally ended, whilst Roberts passed away a decade later.
Romano also adds that he’s not a big fan of reboots or revivals: “They’re never as good. We want to leave with our legacy with what it is.”
The comments come as other sitcoms of the era including “Frasier” and “Night Court” have seen revivals recently with critics rather lukewarm on the shows.
Romano starred in the original sitcom as a Long Island Newsday sportswriter who lives with his wife, Debra (Patricia Heaton) and their three children. Said family frequently finds their lives disrupted by Raymond’s parents and older brother Robert (Brad Garrett) who live right across the street.
The comments come as Romano will star alongside Lisa Kudrow, Linda Cardellini, Luke Wilson, Teyonah Parris, Abbi Jacobson and Poppy Liu in “Dead to Me” creator Liz Feldman’s new series No Good Deed”.
That follows three very different families vying to buy the very same 1920s Spanish style villa.
