Jimmy Hurdstrom is returning to the Yellowstone universe. CBS has confirmed that Jefferson White will be returning as the fan-favourite character in the upcoming second season of Marshals in a recurring role.

Jimmy Returns for Marshals Season 2

“I’m thrilled to dive into the world of Marshals and continue exploring the American West,” said White in a statement. “The cast and crew are stacked full of my favorite actors and filmmakers, and I’m honored to join them. Jimmy and I have been through a lot together, and I can’t wait to see what’s next for us.“

Jimmy is described as “a good-hearted yet rough-around-the-edges ranch hand who evolved from a troubled criminal into a resilient, proud cowboy.“

The series stars Luke Grimes, who reprises his role as Kayce Dutton from Yellowstone. The spinoff finds him joining a team of federal marshals working in Montana. The rest of the cast includes Logan Marshall-Green, Arielle Kebbel, Ash Santos, and Tatanka Means, as well as a few familiar faces from Yellowstone, with Mo Brings Plenty, Brecken Merrill, and Gil Birmingham reprising their roles.

The second season of Marshals will premiere on CBS on October 4.

Jimmy Was Supposed to Return in a Different Spinoff

One of several Yellowstone spinoffs that was originally announced was one that would have centered on the 6666 Ranch in Texas, which is where Jimmy wound up.

However, franchise creator Taylor Sheridan confirmed last month that the 6666 spinoff was dead. “There’s never going to be one; I would never fictionalize that ranch,” Sheridan said. “People thought that that was going to be a thing, but I would never do that.” Sheridan is a part-owner of the real 6666 Ranch, and he added that he doesn’t want to be “inventing a drama” at an active ranch.

We Didn’t Love Marshals

Unfortunately, our own Alex Maidy didn’t love the first season of the series. “Marshals prominently features the signature Yellowstone insignia in all marketing, with every episode showing how indebted the series setting is to Taylor Sheridan’s flagship series, but there is little here that adds to the legacy of the show that inspired it,” he wrote. “If anything, Marshals undoes the virtuous redemption Kayce Dutton achieved over the five seasons of Yellowstone and will leave dedicated fans scratching their heads over why. Marshals has the production values of a major project, but ranks nowhere close to any other series in the library of Sheridan-produced or created projects. Marshals will undoubtedly be a hit for CBS as audiences still flock to anything with the big Y logo emblazoned on it, but this show is a forgettable procedural that fits the brand of shows that CBS is known for, but does not capture what drew people to Yellowstone in the first place.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.
