Following its Emmy win for best directing for a drama series last night, Apple has announced it has renewed its acclaimed espionage dark comedy/thriller series “Slow Horses” for an eighth season.
The renewal comes as the show kicks off its sixth season premiere tomorrow night on Apple TV. That season will combine the sixth and seventh novels in Mick Herron’s novel series – “Joe Country” and “Slough House”.
The series famously shoots well ahead of airing as a seventh season, based on the eighth novel “Bad Actors”, began filming in October 2025 even though it won’t go to air until Fall 2027.
The eighth season is adapted from Heron’s ninth and most recent novel in the series, 2025’s “Clown Town”. It sees Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) and Diana Taverner (Kristin Scott Thomas) face off in their most explosive confrontation yet.
When a botched attempt to blackmail the Park puts Taverner on the offensive, it is up to Lamb to unravel one of MI5’s darkest secrets and put an end to it once and for all.
Adam Randall, who won an Emmy for directing in season four and returned to helm season six, will return to direct season eight.
Herron is continuing to write books in the series and has been able to churn them out at a fairly regular clip, so “Slow Horses” could keep running.
Season six of “Slow Horses” will run from September 16th-October 21st this year on Apple TV.
