Marvel Studios’ new “X-Men” film is still quite a while off, but some details have emerged today regarding the appearance of two key characters – Rogue and Beast.
Speaking with ET Now, “Obsession” actress Inde Navarrette has revealed that she’ll draw from her Texas roots and spend some time in Mississippi while developing her accent to play Rogue in the film. She says:
“I grew up in Texas for a good majority of my life. So honestly, those Southern women are really my favourite; Corpus Christi is the city specifically. So I just remember the old Southern women that I really, really love. But specifically, Mississippi, Rogue is from Mississippi. So I’m really just… I wanna go there. I wanna really do her justice.”
The character hails from rural Mississippi in the comics, speaking with a drawl and in the cartoons has often played up the whole Southern belle trope.
Meanwhile, VFX artist James Mack has revealed on X has seemingly revealed that Beast in the first film will NOT undergo the mutation that transforms his skin into blue fur.
Instead, the character will “have a more beast-like appearance while still looking human, with huge hands and feet” – just like the character was in the original comics.
The character has not been cast yet, but actors are reportedly still being sought for the roles of not just Beast but also Iceman.
The film’s current cast includes Sadie Sink (Jean Grey), Christopher Abbott (Prof. X), Samara Weaving (Emma Frost), Inde Navarrette (Rogue), Asa Germann (Angel), and Maya Boyd (Storm). Adam Driver is also playing the villain Mr. Sinister.
Jake Schreier (“Thunderbolts”) is directing the feature which has a release date of May 5th 2028.
