By Malaysian cinema is heading deep into the jungle for Orang Perang, an ambitious historical action film directed by Hashim Rejab and inspired by the true story of the Semai people. Set in Malaya during the 1950s communist insurgency, the film explores the courage of the Orang Asli community as violence threatens their homeland.
The story follows Bah Tangga, a young man who is forcibly recruited by communist fighters but begins questioning their cause after witnessing atrocities committed against his own people. He escapes into the forest with his friend Bah Ayob, only to be captured by the Jungle Squad led by Inspector Syed Zainal.
Their relationship begins with deep mistrust, particularly because communist propaganda has fueled Bah Tangga’s hatred toward Malays and the British. But Syed Zainal gradually changes his perspective, leading Bah Tangga toward a new path.
The journey eventually takes Bah Tangga and his companions through intense training to join the Senoi Praaq, where their exceptional knowledge of jungle tracking becomes a crucial weapon. Their mission becomes even more personal when Bah Tangga encounters his former friend Bah Pelangkin, now fighting on the communist side.
Starring Niezam Zaidi, Syazwan Zulkifli, Ammar Alfian, Adam Corrie and Fauzi Nawawi, Orang Perang was filmed across Malaysian jungle locations.
Orang Perang opens nationwide on October 1, 2026.
