Adria Arjona played Bix Caleen in both critically acclaimed seasons of Andor, which fulfilled a lifelong dream of joining the Star Wars franchise. However, she very nearly joined a galaxy far, far away several years earlier… in what would be the franchise’s first box-office bomb.
Adria Arjona Was Almost in Solo: A Star Wars Story
While appearing on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Arjona revealed that she had auditioned to play Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story. She got pretty far in the process, even auditioning with Alden Ehrenreich in front of Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who were the original directors of the movie.
“I guess I’m confessing this now. I was with Alden [Ehrenreich]. Phil [Lord] and Chris [Miller] were there,” she said. “I don’t think I’ve ever been more nervous in my life. They put you in a suit, and my biggest dream ever was to be in a Star Wars movie.“
She continued, “I never thought about the sequels or anything. It was more the emotional attachment of ‘Will I ever be in Star Wars?’ I just wanted to be in Star Wars, and the fact that I had that opportunity to be a leading character in a Star Wars movie was like, ‘Wow. This would be insane.’“
Of course, Emilia Clarke got the role of Qi’ra, but Arjona is grateful she ultimately missed out. “I’m so thankful I didn’t get it,” she said. “I wouldn’t have been in Andor, and Bix is the only character I have tattooed on my body.“
As we know, Solo flopped, and the potential sequel was scrapped. Meanwhile, Andor has become one of the more beloved Star Wars projects of the Disney era.
Onslaught
Arjona is currently starring in Onslaught, a new action-horror film by Adam Wingard. She plays an army sniper who struggles to protect her young daughter from an army of genetically engineered super soldiers who escaped from a secret military facility.
Although he was very excited for this one, our own Chris Bumbray felt a little let down. “I was frustrated by Onslaught. I wanted to love it, and indeed I actually did love the first hour of the movie, which perfectly sets the stage for an epic showdown between Arjona’s Celeste and The Butcher, but when it happens, it doesn’t even come close to living up to the buildup,” he wrote. “The action is a letdown, and a movie that has three unstoppable bad-guy killers in it should have been more explosive. It’s still decent and worth seeing, but for me, it didn’t live up to its promise.” You can check out the rest of his review right here.
