Gary Oldman appeared to be onto something the other day when he revealed in an interview that they appear to have already cast the next James Bond.
In a new interview today on BBC Radio 4 (via Yahoo), “Peaky Blinders” creator Steven Knight was on hand to promote the Oasis doco “Don’t Look Back in Anger” when talk turned to Bond.
Knight is penning the script for the new Bond film at Amazon and has been involved in the film’s production for a while.
Host Anna Foster mentioned Gary Oldman’s recent comments that a new Bond had been cast and then asked Knight if the team had made a good choice. Knight responded: “I cannot speak about this subject. Much as I would dearly love to.”
Foster then asked whether he had written the script with the chosen actor in mind or based it on the Bond character in Ian Fleming’s books. He says: “It’s a bit of both. It does make life a little bit easier if you know who that person is, but also you have to write the character, not the actor.”
Then he was asked whether he was told who it was at the beginning, before he started writing, or halfway through. A laughing Knight responded: “I refer you to my previous answer.”
Denis Villeneuve will direct from Knight’s script with the new actor to be announced before the end of the year.
