Beloved actor Nicolas Cage has responded to Amazon Prime Video’s decision the other day not to do a second season of his “Spider-Noir” series.
While out promoting the film in May, he said he and the producers had done what they had set out to achieve and, whether a second season would happen or not, these episodes work on their own as a complete story.
Speaking with Deadline over the holiday weekend, Cage seemed happy to leave it one and done:
“For me, one season is perfect, having said what I wanted to say with this dangerous, innovative, pop-art Spider-Man. Onwards, upwards, inwards.”
The series marked Cage’s first TV role and has been praised by both reviewers and viewers. It landed eleven Emmy Award nominations and has already taken home five honors this weekend at the Creative Arts Emmy ceremonies, including cinematography, sound editing, VFX, stunt co-ordination and main title design.
Reasons for the cancellation have seemingly been put down to the show’s high budget and the lack of sustained high viewership in the weeks and months following its release.
Cage recently played football coach and broadcaster John Madden for the David O. Russell-directed “Madden” film at Amazon.
