By Vietnamese cinema is heading back to the 10th century with an ambitious new period action film that promises warriors, deception and a dangerous mission across the kingdom. Directed by Nguyen Phan Quang Binh, the untitled project is set during the Dinh Dynasty and follows seven warriors given a mission that could determine the fate of the kingdom.
Their task sounds almost impossible: transport 99 coffins across Vietnam as a massive decoy while secretly protecting the location of the final resting place of the country’s first emperor. With enemies potentially watching their every move, the warriors must keep the real coffin hidden while surviving a journey filled with danger and uncertainty.
The cast is led by Tuan Tran, Johnny Tri Nguyen, Thien Tu and Tu Long, with Do Thi Hai Yen, Le Vu Long, Quach Ngoc Ngoan and Hua Vi Van also joining the ensemble.
For action fans, Johnny Tri Nguyen’s involvement could be one of the film’s biggest attractions. Best known internationally for his role in The Rebel, Nguyen is also serving as the project’s action director and is overseeing more than 100 stunt performers.
The scale of the production suggests Vietnam is aiming for a major historical spectacle, combining period drama with large-scale physical action. With its unusual premise and massive stunt team, the film could become one of the country’s most ambitious action productions.
