Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann has once again teased that another “The Last of Us” project is on the way – maybe more than one.
So far, only two games have officially been released, though both have seen remakes and remasters.
Additionally, a multiplayer game was in the works for years before being scuttled a while back as Sony opted to steer away from live service following Jim Ryan’s exit.
Now, The Washington Post has done a feature piece today about writing in video games where Druckmann said:
“We’re not done with ‘The Last of Us.’ There are a couple [of] projects in the works that, when the time is right, I’m very excited to talk about.”
The first game was widely hailed as a masterpiece with almost universal acclaim. The second proved far more divisive, some holding it up in the same league or even better than its predecessor, and others hating some of the creative choices made enough to send death threats to the voice actors.
There have been lingering questions as to whether Naughty Dog plans to use all the development work they did on the live-service title in some way – be it incorporating it into a third single-player game or something else.
Right now the studio is concentrating on getting “Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet” out to the masses – its first actual major new game release since “The Last of Us Part II” back in 2020.
