Naomi Scott (“Aladdin,” “Charlie’s Angels”) has been set to star in the currently untitled sequel to its hit horror feature “Smile” at Temple Hill and Paramount Pictures.
The original film revolved around a psychiatrist who after witnessing a bizarre, traumatic incident involving a patient, becomes increasingly convinced she is being threatened by an uncanny entity.
A surprise runaway hit last year, Paramount ditched a planned straight-to-Paramount+ release for a theatrical launch and utilised a quite targeted and effective marketing campaign.
The switch resulted in a $217 million worldwide gross for a film made on a $17 million budget, a quite profitable venture for the studio. A sequel was subsequently put into development.
Parker Finn wrote the script for the follow-up and will direct. Plot details for the sequel are under wraps, but the casting process is much more intense and high-profile for the film following the first movie’s success.
Paramount has already set an October 18th 2024 release date for the movie. Scott mostly recently worked on “Eternal Return” alongside Kit Harington, and will soon be seen in David Michod’s “Wizards!” with Pete Davidson and Orlando Bloom.
