A film about the chicken-wing restaurant chain Hooters is in the works.
Imaginatively titled “Hooters: The Movie,” the film is being independently produced by the chain’s original founding partners.
Emmy-nominated filmmaker Jon Rosenbaum (“Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp,” “Benchwarmers 2: Breaking Balls”) directs the film from a screenplay by Ed Droste, Phil Olson and Chuck Melcher.
The story centers on Ted and Lenny, two lifelong friends from a small town in Iowa. Ted becomes infatuated with Diane, whom he first sees from afar when featured in a spring break commercial.
Determined to find her in real life, Ted talks a hesitant Lenny into joining him on a road trip to Clearwater Beach in Florida. The trip resulted in the accidental creation of what would become a national restaurant empire.
Diane later became the very first Hooters Girl, and soon the friends ultimately find everything they built threatened by the federal government.
Casting is currently underway, with Lisa London and Catherine Stroud handling it. Filming will take place in the Tampa/Clearwater area from November.
