Although Supergirl was an early stumble for the new DC Universe, James Gunn’s Man of Tomorrow is now closer to release as the writer/director announced on his Threads that principal photography has now wrapped on the sequel. Gunn posts a couple of pictures from the production at a national park-looking area. One of the pictures includes Nicholas Hoult celebrating the conclusion of filming by jumping into a lake and gleefully waving.
His post reads,
That’s a wrap on principal photography for Man of Tomorrow. Truly a joyful experience and I have immense gratitude to my cast and crew. First photo: nicholashoult jumped in the lake after last shot. Second photo: The brain trust (except Brian) around video village during the whole shoot. They make making movies fun.”
Gunn talks Man of Tomorrow
While speaking on the Howard Stern Show last year, Gunn dropped a few story details. “It’s a story about Lex Luthor and Superman having to work together to a certain degree against a much, much bigger threat,” he said. “It’s more complicated than that, but it’s as much a Lex movie as it is a Superman movie. I relate to the character of Lex, sadly. I really wanted to create something extraordinary with the two of them. I just love the script so much.” Gunn has also teased a picture earlier this year of Hoult’s Lex Luthor donning his famous green exo-armor, which is a means to help him battle metahumans.
Who else stars in Man of Tomorrow?
David Corenswet will be back as Superman alongside Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Lars Eidinger is set to play Brainiac and Lanterns star Aaron Pierre will make an appearance as John Stewart. Also expected to return are Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, and Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher.
Matthew Lillard recently joined the cast in an undisclosed role, and Adria Arjona has also signed up. She’s believed to be playing Maxima, but that hasn’t been confirmed, leaving many fans hoping she will be playing Wonder Woman. Xolo Maridueña has also been revealed to reprise his role as the Blue Beetle in the Superman sequel, officially marrying him into the DCU.
The film is set to be released on July 9, 2027.
