Toy Story 5 shows that the franchise has staying power as the new entry becomes the third movie in the series to cross a billion dollars at the box office and also the sixth Pixar film to achieve that milestone. Woody and Buzz reunite for a new adventure with Jesse as their kid, Bonnie, gets caught up in a new era of touch screens. The Disney film has enjoyed its summer run and has recently become available to rent or own in digital on-demand.
Toy Story 5 is set to also arrive on September 22 in a limited-edition 4K SteelBook and Blu-ray featuring the classic characters alongside the new tech characters, including Lilypad and Smarty Pants. So, when will the hit fifth entry of the franchise settle in on the Disney+ streaming platform? Not very long after. In fact, it will be available to stream on Disney+ the next day on September 23.
I Knew It, I Knew You
Additionally, Disney has announced some extra news on the soundtrack from the film. According to the press release, an all-new music video for the Piano Version of 14-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist Taylor Swift’s original song “I Knew It, I Knew You” – featuring footage from Toy Story 5 – is now available to watch on Disney+, Spotify and Apple Music. The record-breaking number-one hit single is performed by Taylor Swift and written and produced by Swift and Jack Antonoff.
Families can now also pre-order the Toy Story 5 Original Soundtrack in vinyl and CD formats. The soundtrack features Swift’s hit single “I Knew It, I Knew You,” along with an original score by 7-time GRAMMY Award and 2-time Academy Award-winning composer Randy Newman, who returns to score his fifth Toy Story feature. The vinyl and CD will be available on Friday, September 25, 2026.
What did we think of Toy Story 5?
The film was getting good buzz (no pun intended) prior to its release and our Chris Bumbray echoed the positive reactions with an 8/10 review, where he says, “Toy Story 5 is terrific and, at certain moments, comes close to equaling the original trilogy. In fact, the first half hour of the film may be the strongest in the series to date, even if it begins to spin its wheels a bit later on. Ultimately, the film winds up just a notch below the original trilogy, but well ahead of the fourth movie and easily Pixar’s strongest overall film since its heyday.”
He also stated, “In the end, I had a wonderful time with Toy Story 5, which benefits from having the director of Finding Nemo and WALL-E, Andrew Stanton, at the helm. It genuinely feels designed as a full-circle experience for the kids who grew up with the original trilogy and are now in their thirties or forties, facing many of the same issues Jessie is. It’s bittersweet, often moving, and much closer to the brilliance of the original trilogy than you might expect.”
