Filmmaker Denis Villeneuve is still at work in post-production on “Dune: Part Three” ahead of that film’s premiere in December.
As previously teased, this is expected to be a darker and weirder film than its predecessors, and some talk suggests the film currently clocks in above the three-hour mark.
Now comes talk from Javier Bardem, who will return as Stilgar for what’s being dubbed the final film in the saga and is based on Frank Herbert’s second novel “Dune: Messiah”.
Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, he was asked if he had seen a cut of the film. He seemed to indicate he hasn’t but thinks it’ll conclude like no one expected:
“It’s going to be a masterpiece. Because Denis (Villeneuve) really wants to go farther and farther from the last movie. It’s like what he did with the second movie compared to the first one.
Those who have read the book know the ‘Messiah’ book, but it goes beyond that. It’s going to be a feast. It’s going to be something extraordinary.”
This would fit in with reports that Villeneuve is being a bit looser with this adaptation and speculation that he could include some elements of the third novel “Children of Dune” within the narrative – be it in a vision or something else.
That would fit with the casting of Paul’s children Leto II and Ghanima with teenagers Nakoa-Wolf Momoa and Ida Brooke set to play them. Both characters are only seen as newborn infants in ‘Messiah’.
Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Florence Pugh, Robert Pattinson, and Anya Taylor-Joy co-star in the film which opens December 18th.
