Following weeks of sold-out shows, IMAX has announced that IMAX 70mm screenings of Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey” have now been extended by a full month.
The feature was originally slated to run through August 19th, but freshly updated listings on IMAX’s website now confirm that run is being extended through to September 16th.
AMC’s mobile app was already putting users in a digital queue Thursday afternoon as new tickets were released. Only about 25 U.S. theatres and 41 worldwide offer true 70mm IMAX, which has generated both excitement and frustration.
The news comes as the movie has surpassed $700 million worldwide after just 12 days in theatres – racking up $320.5 million domestically and $407.4 million overseas for a total $727.9 million take so far.
The top three releases of 2026 are “Toy Story 5” ($1.02 billion), “The Super Mario Galaxy Movie” ($1.001 billion) and “Michael” ($1.001 billion). “The Odyssey is expected to join the $1 billion club in the coming week.
Added to this, the film has yet to open in China, where Nolan has grown a fan following. It is expected to hit nearly 800 IMAX screens – and across thousands of standard auditoriums when it debuts there in two weeks.
