In some highly disappointing news, Marvel Studios’ “Wonder Man” series has been cancelled on the Disney+ service reports Variety.
Disney announced a Season 2 renewal for the series back in March, roughly two months after it debuted.
However, the trade’s sources indicate a writers’ room for Season 2 was never opened, and the show’s writers have been released to pursue other projects.
Their sources add that characters featured in the series could still appear in other Marvel projects in the future.
Disney did not release any viewership data for the show, though it charted in the Nielsen streaming top 10 charts the week of its release.
More importantly, it was the subject of strong critical acclaim with a 91% on RT and 75/100 Metacritic score. Filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton, who helms the new “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” film, co-created the show.
Yahya Abdul Mateen II and Ben Kingsley starred in the series as Simon Williams and Trevor Slattery, respectively with Abdul-Mateen earning an Emmy nomination for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series.
