Chris Hemsworth has confirmed that production has kicked off on “Extraction 3,” the third film in the Netflix action series.

Hemsworth returns as former Australian black ops mercenary Tyler Rake, alongside Idris Elba as the mysterious ‘Alcott’, and Golshifteh Farahani as Tyler’s partner Nik Khan.

Sam Hargrave is back as director, along with producers like Patrick Newall and Joe and Anthony Russo. Hargrave says in a statement: “Our goal has always been to push the boundaries of action filmmaking, and with Extraction 3, we’re taking our biggest swing yet.”

The films are based on the graphic novel “Ciudad” by Ande Parks and the Russo brothers and are heavily defined by their locations.

The first was set in Dhaka in Bangladesh, though primarily shot in Thailand and India. The second film is primarily set in the country of Georgia, though shot mostly around the Czech Republic and Austria.

Plot specifics of this one are under wraps, but filming is taking place across Sydney, Australia, the NSW South Coast, and parts of Europe. Shooting is expected to run through until early October.

David Weil wrote the screenplay for the film, which is expected to bring in around $127 million into the NSW economy. A 2027 release is expected.
