It has been a bit of a late Friday bloodbath as four series are facing the chop – two abruptly, and two set to be canned after their upcoming seasons.
First up, AMC’s Bob Odenkirk-led eight-episode dramedy series “Lucky Hank” is one and done with May’s finale now serving as a series finale.
Odenkirk starred as Hank Devereaux, a writing professor at a fictional Pennsylvania college whose frustrations over a stalled writing career leads to a very public outburst that threatens his status.
Next, Freeform has cancelled its last two remaining scripted series – “The Fosters” spinoff “Good Trouble,” and the anthology series “Cruel Summer”.
The former will end with the back half of its fifth season premiering January 2nd, the latter will now finish with its second season which aired back in July. Costs and low ratings are said to be the cause of the axings.
Finally, the ABC firefighter drama and “Grey’s Anatomy” spin-off “Station 19” is ending. The upcoming seventh season, debuting in mid-March next year, will be the show’s last with the decision being made to allow “producers to craft a proper ending”. The series averaged 5.2 million total viewers and a 0.7 demo rating last season.
