Focus Features has announced a June 21st 2024 release date for Jeff Nichols’ 1950s Chicago motorcycle club crime epic “The Bikeriders” starring Austin Butler, Jodie Comer and Tom Hardy.
The New Regency film was originally slated to open last Friday by Disney’s 20th Century Studios until they pulled it from the release schedule in late October.
It took New Regency a month but they found a new distributor with Universal-owned Focus. As the film is built on its stars, all in-demand actors who will have to be scheduled to promote the movie, the new date partly reflects that.
Michael Shannon, Boyd Holbrook, Norman Reedus, Mike Faist, Emory Cohen, Damon Herriman, Beau Knapp, Karl Glusman, Paul Sparks, Happy Anderson, Will Oldham and Toby Wallace co-star.
The film is inspired by Danny Lyon’s 1968 book of the same name, a collection of photographs and anecdotes chronicling the Chicago Outlaws Motorcycle Club.
The project had its world premiere in September at Telluride to good reviews, though is seen as a more commercial affair than an awards play.
