“Reacher” star Alan Ritchson is in negotiations to join “Carry On” and “The Shallows” director Jaume Collet-Serra’s new film “Maelstrom” at Netflix.
The story follows a Federal Marshal guarding an arms dealer’s fiancée who is seeking witness protection in exchange for evidence.
Over the course of one evening, a hurricane rolls in and blocks both outside communication and reinforcements.
Together, the two must fight to survive the onslaught of men working for the arms dealer, as well as the escalating elements of the natural disaster raging outside.
The project may sound familiar as it began life back in 1993 as a spec script from late writer Gregory Fitzpatrick and producer Jeff Robinov. Robinov remains attached as producer alongside Tabitha Shick.
“How to Rob a Bank” scribe Mark Bianculli has been set to refresh the script and modernise its characters.
