Peacock and A24 have premiered the official teaser trailer for “Crystal Lake,” the upcoming TV series prequel to the “Friday the 13th” franchise which premieres on October 15th.

The eight-episode series follows single mother Pam Voorhees who has been unable to shake her grief after her young, sickly son Jason tragically drowned in the town lake almost a year before.

When two strangers arrive at Pam’s door digging into her past, a disturbing chain of events are set into motion, leaving the townspeople of Crystal Lake wondering: just who is Pam Voorhees?

Linda Cardellini (“Dead to Me”) takes on the role of Pamela Voorhees who was the killer in the original feature but is essentially absent from subsequent entries as the son Jason, not so dead, becomes the killer.

Brad Caleb Kane (“It: Welcome to Derry”) serves as showrunner on the series and explains to EW the point of the show:

“We wanted to dive into Pam’s psychology. We wanted to see her unravelling after [watching] the events of the movie that everybody knows. We wanted to see her relationship with Jason and what his death kicks off in her – her trying to find some sort of equilibrium in her life after the thing that ostensibly she lives for, her son, was taken away from her, and how all the people around her and the circumstances surrounding her make that impossible to do. So it’s really a character piece.”

One change is that this shifts the timeline – Jason died in the late 1950s in the original films, but here the death and events take place in the 1970s. Callum Vinson will take on the part of a young Jason Voorhees with the help of makeup and prosthetics.

Danielle Kotch, Phoenix Parnevik, Cameron Scoggins and Nick Cordileone will all play characters who appeared in the original film and usually ended up victims of Pam. William Catlett and Devin Kessler play new characters.
