Russell Crowe, Rami Malek and Michael Shannon are all set to lead the historical drama film “Nuremberg” which will be helmed by “Zodiac” scribe and “Truth” director James Vanderbilt for Bluestone Entertainment and Walden Media.
Based on Jack El Hai’s book “The Nazi and the Psychiatrist,” Vanderbilt adapted the script about American psychiatrist Douglas Kelley (Malek) who is tasked with determining whether Nazi prisoners are fit to stand trial for their war crimes.
He’s soon engaged in a complex battle of wits with Hitler’s right-hand man Hermann Göring (Crowe). Shannon stars as Supreme Court Justice Robert H. Jackson, the chief prosecutor of the Nuremberg trials.
Vanderbilt says in a statement: “What an absolute honor it is to be working with such a tremendously talented group of actors. Our partners at Bluestone and Walden have been incredibly supportive, and I cannot wait to bring this amazing true story to the screen.”
Crowe is coming off roles in “The Pope’s Exorcist” and “Thor: Love and Thunder” with both “Kraven the Hunter” and “Sleeping Dogs” on the way next year. Malek was just in “Oppenheimer” and has “The Amateur” coming soon. Shannon will soon be seen in “The Bikeriders” and “The End”.
Richard Saperstein, William Sherak, Vanderbilt, Brad Fischer, Istvan Major, and Paul Neinstein are producing. The project is aiming to begin production in Hungary in February.
