“Wednesday” breakout Emma Myers, who played roommate Enid Sinclair in that series, has closed a deal to star in the “Minecraft” movie at Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary.
Myers joins previously cast Jason Momoa, Danielle Brooks and Sebastian Eugene Hansen in the feature take of Mojang’s insanely popular sandbox video game which remains the highest-selling videogame of all time.
Players explore a blocky, procedurally generated, three-dimensional world with virtually infinite terrain and may discover and extract raw materials, craft tools and items, and build structures, earthworks, and machines.
The title released in 2011 and since then has sold 300 million copies and boasts nearly 140 million monthly active players. Plot specifics of the film adaptation are under wraps.
Writing credits haven’t been finalised, though Jared Hess is directing the project. Roy Lee, Jon Berg, Mary Parent, Cale Boyter, Momoa, Torfi Frans Olafsson, Vu Bui and the late Jill Messick produce.
Filming is slated to begin at the end of the month in New Zealand. Myers currently stars Netflix’s Ed Helms comedy “Family Switch”.
