After the actor’s strike shut down pre-production just a few weeks before it was to begin shooting in mid-August, the cast and crew of the third “TRON” film, “TRON: Ares,” have reunited and are back at it in Vancouver, Canada.
Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Rønning (“Kon-Tiki,” “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales”) did a posting on Instagram this week showing a photo of a table-read ahead of filming kicking off.
Rønning says in his post: “WE ARE BACK! And I’m so happy to see you all made it through the break. Thank you for riding it out. I can’t wait to start shooting a movie with you guys! Tronwards!”
The story will reportedly focus on the emergence of Ares, a sentient program that crosses over into the human world that is not ready for contact.
Jared Leto will play the human manifestation of that program. Evan Peters, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Cameron Monaghan are also part of the cast.
Rønning directs from a script by Jesse Wigutow and Jack Thorne. The new film is expected to spend more time in the real world than the digital ones of the first two movies.
“TRON: Ares” has yet to set a release date.
