Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures Entertainment have confirmed that the 4K re-release of 1988 anime film classic “Akira” is coming to North American cinemas, including IMAX, on September 4th.
Remastered from original 35mm elements and Dolby TrueHD audio, screenings will have the option for Japanese with subtitles or the English dub. The re-release hit UK cinemas back in April.
The film follows biker Kaneda and his friend Tetsuo, whose psychic powers unleash government conspiracies and destruction in a post-WWIII world. Considered one of the most important anime works of all time, it remains a cinematic classic and milestone nearly 40 years later.
Mad Max
Swedish-born weightlifter and actor Kjell Nilsson, who played Lord Humungus in “The Road Warrior,” has died at the of 76 following a four-year battle with kidney disease. His death was announced by family on his Facebook page.
According to the family statement, Kjell “passed away peacefully in his sleep” on July 2, surrounded by his sons. He had been losing control of his bodily autonomy and made the decision to stop dialysis. He also had a bodybuilding and coaching career along with time working for an Australian software company. Attack on Titan 3
New gameplay footage is out from the third mainline entry in the video game series based on the “Attack on Titan” manga/anime franchise. The title arrives this winter on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC via Steam.
Serving as the culmination of the series, the third game will see players take on the role of a Scout Regiment and relive some memorable events from the anime. MAPPA, the animation studio behind the final season of Attack on Titan, will be working on the game’s opening animation.
Daredevil: Born Again
More photos and video have gone online showcasing Charlie Cox and Elodie Yung in full Daredevil and Elektra costumes shooting scenes for the third season of “Daredevil: Born Again”.
Vincent D’Onofrio, back in full white-suited Kingpin mode, was also spotted. Filming on the new season is wrapping this month ahead of a March premiere.
