Sony Pictures has premiered a new World Cup-themed promo spot for the upcoming “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” with Tom Holland’s Peter Parker meeting Argentine football legend Lionel Messi in a bodega.

This clip was released ahead of Argentina taking on Cape Verde this Friday and continues the film’s promotional tour ahead of its release next month.

Additionally, The Cosmic Circus today is reporting that Holland is “now involved in the creative process for Spider-Man in a similar way to how Tom Hiddleston was involved for Loki”.

As a result, the actor has a lot more say in how his character is handled. They add: “that has allowed for a lot of interesting conversations to take place behind the scenes, not just at the film level, but across several aspects of the character and lore across different media, which, hopefully, when the whole MCU resets, we’ll start to see trickle in.”

The new film begins a while after we last caught up with our friendly neighbourhood hero and Peter Parker is now an adult living entirely alone, having voluntarily erased himself from the lives and memories of those he loves.

Crime-fighting in a New York that no longer knows his name, he’s devoted himself entirely to protecting his city — a full-time Spider-Man — but as the demands on him intensify, the pressure sparks a surprising physical evolution that threatens his existence, even as a strange new pattern of crimes gives rise to one of the most powerful threats he has ever faced.

The film is being helmed by Destin Daniel Cretton (“Wonder Man,” “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings”).

Also set are Zendaya as Michelle ‘MJ’ Jones-Watson, Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds, Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle/Punisher, Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner/Hulk, Michael Mando as Mac Gargan/Scorpion, Marvin Jones III as Lonnie Lincoln/Tombstone, Sadie Sink, Liza Colón-Zayas and Tramell Tillman.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” opens in cinemas on July 31st.
