A24 has premiered the second trailer for its historical drama “The Zone of Interest” which marks a return to filmmaking of “Under the Skin” and “Sexy Beast” director Jonathan Glazer after a decade hiatus.
Loosely based on author Martin Amis’ novel, the film sees the commandant of the Auschwitz concentration camp, Rudolf Höss, and his wife Hedwig strive to build a dream life for their family in a house and garden next to the camp.
The original book followed a Nazi soldier whom engages in a torrid, secretive love affair with Hedwig and her husband soon begins to suspect. All this plays out against the genocidal horror.
The film stars Christian Friedel as the longest-serving commandant of the Auschwitz camp Rudolf Höss, Sandra Hüller as Hedwig Höss, Johann Karthaus as Klaus Höss, Nele Ahrensmeier as Inge-Brigitt Höss, Lilli Falk as Heidetraut Höss, and Medusa Knopf as Elfriede.
The film had its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, where it won the Grand Prix award and the FIPRESCI Prize along with scoring high acclaim.
A24, Film4, Access Entertainment, and producer James Wilson are behind the film which scheduled to hit cinemas on December 15th.
